So when following up on the Iron Man saga in the Avengers movies, we all wanted to see more of what RDJR brought to the table, which is why Favreau’s reaction to reading Avengers: Endgame wasn’t at all surprising, shocked, so says the Russo brothers.
They were interviewed by Vanity Fair and expressed their bravery about their conversation ‘Part of the pressure [not to kill Tony Stark] It came from Jon Favreau, who called us after he read the script…and told us, “Are you really going to kill Iron Man?”

Joe Russo continued, “He did. Yeah. And I remember rushing to a podium corner on the phone with Favreau trying to talk him over the edge. Because he’s like, ‘You can’t do this.'” It’s going to ruin people, and you don’t want them, you know, to come off the stage and get into traffic. We did it anyway.”

The Russo brothers trusted Christopher Marcus and Stephen McFeely as screenwriters for Endgame and, when interviewed by The New York Times, held up, “Everyone knew this was going to be the end of Tony Stark.” They expressed that the Sagittarius character made sense because Stark wanted to achieve selflessness, not retire as Captain America did.
